In yesterday’s session of the Assembly, Prime Minister Pandeli Majko, replying to an interpellation made by Democratic MP Tritan Shehu, presented with facts several serious anti-state actions by the PD government in 1993, which were part of a broad corrupt scheme led by former Prime Minister Aleksandër Meksi.
In 1993, an order was issued for goods and products from customs to be sent to Rinas Airport that were not ordinary for a normal state regime. Taking advantage of a legal loophole and with political support, according to the documents presented in the Assembly, an activity linked to the smuggling of cigarettes, fuel and weapons was organized.
The Prime Minister stressed that the published documentation contains orders, letters and decisions implicating the highest structures of governance of that time. According to him, the plan drawn up sought to authorize the Minister of Defense to carry out this action, bypassing the laws and institutional control.
He stated that the government of the time not only knew about these acts, but had also created the administrative cover to carry them out. In this context, Prime Minister Majko described the Meksi government as sunk in corruption and illegal dealings that directly harmed the interests of the Albanian state.
